HSC 26' - Venue Check
A single offline HTML file that answers one question. Is the bar or restaurant you're heading to booked for a private event tonight?
The Problem
During Hacker Summer Camp week, casino restaurants around Mandalay Bay and the strip get booked for private events and never update their websites. The main way you find out is walking up to a locked door.
How I settled on this solution
I tried the manual version first. For the past few years my recon routine was getting in touch with managers of every bar and restaurant on my list to ask if they were booked for private events. That worked, but was a time consuming process sometimes requiring me to go in person.
So I pulled 10+ publicly available event sources, cross-referenced them against registration sites, and indexed 337 private events across the 9 days of the week.
Because the tool has to work when the internet doesn't, everything ships as a single offline HTML file. Type in a venue, an event, or a host, and get the answer immediately.
